How Many Bibles?

November 30, 2012

I am currently reading through my Bible in one of those one year reading plans and I came to a sad realization last night. I have been hurrying through it it and not really enjoying the story. I don’t know if anyone else does this but I hustle through my daily reading more like it is a chore and not the blessing it really is. There are communities around the world that have Christians in them that risk the life of theirselves and families just so they can have a piece of one page from the Bible. As I say that I look around my house and notice at the very least we have 12 Bibles in our home. I have a Bible on my phone, I have a Bible on my tablet, I have access to God’s Word every moment of the day. I would love to do more to see Gods Word reach others that have never seen it but until God shows me a way to do that, I at least want to be thankful for the blessing of being able to read and soak in Gods Word without fearing for my life.

How many Bibles do you have?

I don’t believe God will care how many Bibles we collected in our lives, but what did we did with the knowledge we collected that will interest Him. It took me a long time to realize that it is only what we do for the Lord that counts in life. Thank you for your post!

I am not saying that I think we will be judged for how many Bibles we own, but I just think that, like you said, we should use them so much more. We have been blessed to have this kind of access to the Bible and so many of us, including me, sometimes neglect this amazing blessing.

I know what you mean! I find it especially hard to drum up enthusiasm for the law and history books. Jesus is exciting! Levital purity laws…eh, not so much.

We have nine Bibles in our house, and of them we only use about four or five. Lately I’ve been toying with the idea of donating the ones we don’t use to a local Christian organisation. The ‘if you can’t feed a hundred people then feed only one’ concept.

Anyway, thanks for this post and have a great Christmas! =)
